THE TSITSIKAMMA HIKING TRAIL
Length: 6 days.
Terrain: Seaside, Forest, Mountains (non technical).
Difficulty: 6 out of 10 due to time on feet.
Max group size: 24 people.
BRIEF OVERVIEW
The trail is beautiful and takes you through some pristine indigenous forest areas and mountain fynbos with amazing views.
The trail is relatively tough due to the time on your feet but there is "slack packing" porterage option available should you want your heavy overnight packs delivered to each hut. This will free you up to carry those luxury accessories like binoculars, bigger cameras and field guide books.
Although some sections will take you across the Outeniqua mountains there are no technical sections where you will need rope, mountaineering equipment etc.
There are overnight huts at each stop, with flushing loos and all offering a clever hot water bucket shower system. All have excellent covered braai/BBQ areas with wood and an axe.
Rainwater tanks provide drinking water at the huts, but don’t rely on this. Fill up from the many river crossings en route (ensuring you have water purification tablets). Cell phone connection is patchy.
Slackpacking is available and can be arranged direct with Cape Pine by calling +27 (0) 42 2811 712, nadia@capepine.co.za or graeme@capepine.co.za.
Use the menu on the right to find out what each day has in store for you.
