The Otter Hiking Trail
Av Hiking Time: 5.5 - 6 hours.
Highlights: Skilderkrans views and Bloubaai beach.
Be prepared for: Steep hills - lots of them.
Day 2 of the Otter Trail is probably the most varied day of the hike (and one of the toughest).
Forest, fynbos, views for whale and dolphin spotting, tough climbs, the Skilderkrans Quartz Promontory, and of course the bloubaai beach are just some of the things you pass through.
Just make sure you don't miss Bloubaai beach - a great place for lunch. Relax and catch your breath at the beach as straight afterwards you have the biggest climb of the hike - very tough but a great view from the top.
Scott Hut is situated on the Geelhoutbos River Mouth, a really beautiful setting.
Tips for Day 2:
- Frozen meat wrapped up in your sleeping bag with probably stay fresh so why not enjoy a little meat at the end of one of the toughest days on the hike.
- Explore up river at Scott Hut. (There is also a very small tidal beach on the opposite side of the mouth - but be warned - the tides can change quickly!)
